Pointing out hysterical rhetoric from PUMAdon has always been a target rich exercise, but I usually get through a couple cups of coffee before I start spitting them out. In today’s morning roundup murphy links to a great deal of stupid PUMA sites, including one by “Insight Analytical” (What, were the names”CutCom,” “EdgeCo,” and “InterSlice” already taken?). InsightAnalytical opens with a paragraph that is ubiquitous in PUMA blogging; “I’ve never been a fan of X, but…”

I was driving home last night and happened to hear the opening salvo from Michael Savage. Now, I’ve never been a fan of Savage, but he seems to have caught on to what’s really going on with the Obama Administration. So, I don’t gag when I hear him as much as I have in the past.

She then goes to to document why Obama is Hitler and Michael Savage is warning us. I didn’t actually read the whole thing, because my time is more valuable than that.

I was curious about InsightAnalytical, however. What kind of person blogs under a name like that, especially as a PUMA? From her About page:

My Background: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science; 5+ years in the field of market research, including stints at Exhibit Surveys, R.H. Bruskin Associates, The Gallup Organization and United States Testing Company (including many consumer products and consumer product safety testing; 2 years with The Hartford; 8 years as a public librarian and school media specialist in all grades, from pre-school to Grade 12. (Assorted extras: Associates Degree in Automotive Technology/Chrysler Program (only woman in class, graduated #1); cosmetology license and advanced training in London at Vidal Sassoon; Trained and certified in hypnotherapy by the American Board of Hypnotherapy.)

What an eccentric background! I must confess my bias for rationality inclines me to dismiss anybody claiming certification in hypnotherapy as not terribly rationale.

With expertise and certification like this, I can see why we should value her opinion that Obama is Hitler.

Serious people, these PUMAs.

  1. What, no certificate from the Barbizon School of Modeling?

  2. PS, could you please check your mail? Thanks!

  3. She’s not really comparing BO to Hitler, but rather to a fictional charachter out of a book meant to warn about the dangers of totalitarian government.

Of course ‘It can’t happen here’ was written in 1935, so it was a very specific attack on the rise of the nazis and I’m sure insight analytical wouldn’t mind if we drew our own conclusions, but she never specifially links Hitler and Obama together. Thank God for small mercies and all that…

On another note, if she’s trying to convince anyone that that book has any similarities with the Obama administration, she should really find some better quotes…

    (10) All Negroes shall be prohibited from voting, holding public office, practicing law, medicine, or teaching in any class above the grade of grammar school, and they shall be taxed 100 per cent of all sums in excess of $10,000 per family per year which they may earn or in any other manner receive.

Yes, that sure sounds like something Obama would do, doesn’t it? 😀

  4. Pumas have been comparing Obama to dictators in general and Hitler in particular since before they were pumas. Here’s a thread from way back that gives us a look at what a Puma Perfect Society would be like.

The selection of the Puma administration starts….

As long as there is corruption in the voting process, I don’t see how the process can be allowed to go forward. It should be completely halted until fairness and accuracy are guaranteed. What else makes sense?

Seriously, my secretaries, you must get to work. someone asked upthread what my job is, and (der!), it’s president in our in play-land,
SO we must get to work . ..

I’ll be looking for reports from the cabinet, plus sergei.
dwp is chief of staff and sheri is attorney general (do u have a law degree??)

It sounds like pumas don’t have a problem so much with Hitler as with a black Hitler. To be fair not every proposed policy reeked of fascism, there were a few along the lines of having the trains run on time.

  5. I think you’re taking it a bit far saying pumas don’t have a problem with Hitler… The issue here is simply that they haven’t got the foggiest idea what fascism really is. To them all fascism = Hitler = holocaust.

What is true is the fact that they don’t seem to have a problem with comparing normal (democratic) politicians to Hitler, and yes I know they’ve been doing that for quite some time (it’s one of my personal pet puma peeves.) Like this little gem:

bostonboomer, on January 19th, 2009 at 11:09 am Said:
    Liberty Belle,
Great letter. If the media can’t even remember 16 years ago, imagine how hard it will be to get them to remember the days when I was a kid in the early ’60s! Maybe that’s why they don’t notice the scary parallels between Obama’s propagandizing and Mussolini’s and Hitler’s? No, I don’t think that’s over the top.

    or this:

    Ex-DemInVA 01.29.09 at 5:15 pm
This sounds more like Hitler every day.

For the longest time, I just didn’t get what they could possibly hope to accomplish with comments like this. I mean the only thing it can possibly accomplish is offending sane people, right?

The truth of it is that they’ve spend so much time demonising Obama that the survival of their little movement depends on him being as evil as Hitler. Of course, now that he’s in office (and not doing any of the scary stuff they threatened us with), this kind of talk is starting to lose effectiveness with everyone except their craziest followers. Which is why they’ve branched out into woman lynching. Hey, Murphy’s got to make a living too, you know…

I just wish they’d stop. That kind of rethoric is an insult to Marie, the Auschwitz survivor I visit at the retirement home on quiet Saturdays, to my 2 great-great-uncles who were shot for being part of the resistance and to every single innocent person that died during the war.

Of course pumas don’t get that, as it would require basic human decency.

  6. The no problem with Hitler part was a bit of a bad joke. I think you’re right they don’t know much about fascism just that fascism=bad and Obama=bad so Obama=fascism. I also think they don’t know much about politics in general. There are quite a few of them who have said they weren’t interested in elections until 2008. Before the primaries started Hillary was the frontrunner by a mile, they thought they were backing a sure thing. Then the race started and what looke like a sure victory crumbled to dust.
The Hitler comparisons bother me a bit too. The first time I read one I was reminded of the Cronenberg movie The Dead Zone. There’s a scene about wether if you have a timemachine it would be moral to use it to kill baby Hitler. The answer to this question is why it’s dangerous to compare someone you hate to Hitler especially if it is so regularly by so many.

  7. addendum:
I don’t think pumas are fascits or even rascists (well most of them anyway) They just have to put their hate into words day after day and the next rant has to be louder than the previous.

  8. Speaking of Hitler comparisons, now they’re accusing Obama of censoring Limbaugh:

“sam, on March 4th, 2009 at 12:25 pm Said:
As for Rush, Cramer/Kramer (sp?), Coulter and Sean Hannity, why on earth should they be hit or shut up? Isn’t free speech vital to the health of a Democracy? If what they are saying is so wrong, wouldn’t it be easy enough to simply point out the faults in their arguments and statements?”

    angienc2, on March 4th, 2009 at 1:41 pm Said:
“Hell, I still “hate” Rush & I still don’t listen to him — but what I really, truly HATE is the government attacking someone based on his/her political beliefs — the fact that the Obots don’t see that this is exactly what is going on with the Rush/Cramer bashing just exposes how little they know about the First Amendment (just like Dear Leader).”
catarina, on March 4th, 2009 at 1:46 pm Said:
    “Totally agree, angie.
Using the word “obnoxious” to describe Limbaugh is an understatement, but the attempts to stifle any criticism of Obama is damned frightening.
    Surely, we are next.”
“catarina, on March 4th, 2009 at 2:05 pm Said:
    holy sh**!
I wanna send Rush a few bucks for the debate!”

    Stupid sam,stupid catarina, stupid angienc2

  9. I’m just astonished that they’re still labouring under the delusion that Obama knows who they are, let alone that they’re next on his list.

Not only are they stupid, they’re also pretty damn full of themselves, aren’t they?

  10. surely we are next

Yeah, considering the only people who pay attention are those who wish to point and laugh, mock and giggle about, I can’t think of anyone other than Obama and his dark minions hunting you down. Be afraid. be very afraid.

  11. JasonM: Now, be fair to angie. She’s identified something new and startlingly different in American politics – the administration actually speaking in opposition to a major voice within the opposing party. And what a statement of opposition! They are accusing him of being the leader of the Republicans. A horribly vicious attack. A desperate, unconscionable slander.

I’m telling you, this sort of thing sickens me. It is a blatant violation of the public trust and sets a horrible precedent in American politics. Now that Obama has managed to violate the position of the Presidency in this way, by sliming Rush Limbaugh as the voice of the opposition, who knows what might happen in the future? We might see White House officials leaking the identity of covert CIA agents to the media in acts of petty political vengeance. Or Senators arranging the dismissal of US Attorneys for being insufficiently partisan in their duties. Or Congressional hearings that accuse hundreds of people of Communist sympathies, blacklist them from any further work in their profession and doom them to a life in ignominious squalor. All these things were absolutely unthinkable before — but now that Obama has opened the floodgates with his reckless and vile attack on Rush, who knows what depths of depravity our politicians will feel free to engage in? Obama has reduced our once-great Presidency to something small, mean and puerile. Hillary would never have betrayed our trust like this.

  12. Totally agree AndrewClaySilverstein. It really makes one wonder if there is some sort of “enemy” or “opposite” of Christ around.

Have a nice socialist day, and be sure to keep your papers in order, comrade.

  13. What’s even stupider is that Bill Clinton also attacked Limbaugh, I remember hearing him do so on the radio back in the 90s. I guess he was trying to crush Rush’s First Amendment rights. Of course the pumorons’ political memory only goes back to the 2008 primary season, so they have no idea that Clinton did this.

From the St Louis Journalism Review:
    ‘Clinton Plays Limbaugh’s Game’
Pres. Clinton seems to be taking the easy way out in his responses to Rush Limbaugh. Instead of seeking to build a stable coalition for a progressive agenda, Clinton accuses the talkshow host of generating an atmosphere of negativism. In doing so, Clinton turns the tables on the Republicans by attempting to split their coalition, which may or may not prove a success in preventing large Democratic losses in the midterm elections.

“After I get off the radio today with you, Rush Limbaugh will have three hours to say whatever he wants. And I won’t have any opportunity to respond. There’s no truth detector.”

  14. What’s even stupider is that Bill Clinton(one of the “heroes” of the pumorons) also attacked Limbaugh, I remember hearing him do so on the radio back in the 90s. I guess he was trying to crush Rush’s First Amendment rights.

  16. HOT JOB OPPORTUNITY! Dakinikat says Obama is seeking paid bloggorz and haxxors for vendetta against Cramer. Go to one of Craig Lists.

  17. Yeah, I noticed that earlier today, dakinikrap says this is”evidence” that Obama’s hiring bloggers:

go check out the last post on the post about them … there’s evidence they’re being recruited on Craig’s list

Also, they’re having violent fantasies about beating on the “paid Obama bloggers”. Just imagine their reaction if an Obama supporter made these comments about them:

  23. I wonder if Simofish is the same one that used to comment at Eschaton. If so, I can’t imagine how one goes from Duncan Black to Palin 2012 and PUMA.

    But Murphy did…

  24. Stupid PUMA bigots. I was doing a bit of troling on NQ the other night. The Ferd Berfle posting bigoted rubbish against the President, on there and other PUMA sites is the same Ferd Berfle who was writing this stuff until DU booted him off.

More evidence that the PUMA bigots are nothing more than Rethugs stirring trouble.

Dumb asses. If McCain is an Option for you – YOU are not NOW and Never have been – a Democrat

Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 02:07 PM by Ferd Berfle
A switch from Clinton to McCain is absurd – politically, ideologically, rationally.

IF McCain is an option for you:

    – You are the same sociopathic Ideologue that still supports Bush/Cheney
    – You are Irrational
    – You are probably an Authoritarian as described here: http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~altemey /
    – You probably saw through Hillary’s “democratic” disguise to her DLC Republican-lite core – and liked what you saw.
    – You are willfully ignorant – “What’s the matter with Kansas?”
    – You are capable of ignoring, or approved of, Hillary’s Rovian tactics and her Faustian deals with Murdock and Mellon Scaife
    – You like triangulation, distortions and attempts to change the rules when you can’ win buy the one you agreed to.

  25. Dakinkat speaks.

dakinikat, on March 9th, 2009 at 2:48 pm Said:
are you kidding me, i’d read all of shakespeare before I was a teenager … that book list is at best for 5th and 6th graders

really, let’s get real, he doesn’t speak any languages other than english which is really odd considering his back ground, he can’t paint or draw, he can’t play a musical instrument, the history books he quotes from would be on any typical freshman history reading list, I read the reluctant belligerent as a freshman, hell, by the time I was in 8th grade I was reading chaucer in old english. hell, even I published my first academic textbook at 28 and I didn’t even have the benefit of having gone to ivy leagues … just the university of Nebraska

Wow she read Chaucer in Old English! Too bad Chaucer didn’t write in Old English which morphed into Middle English after the Norman invasion of 1066. She’s the intellectual even though she gets basic economics wrong day in and day out. And remember folks, she’s the smart one.

  26. Good catch! Her cod-elitist stupidity is obviously contagious:

swanspirit, on March 9th, 2009 at 3:09 pm Said:

I love Chaucer , thank you for saying his name 😉 I read some in old english too, and I had Spanish and Latin before I finished High School

… let’s get real, he doesn’t speak any languages other than english which is really odd considering his back ground,

Well, um, I can speak, or at least get by in, four languages, but that doesn’t make me an intellectual. On the other hand, never let facts get in the way of a dakinikat argument:

ABC News’ Kirit Radia Reports: As President Obama worked the rope-line at the State Department Thursday, a State Department staffer named Charles Silver, knowing the President once lived in Indonesia, shouted out, “good afternoon” in the local language.

Obama responded back in what Silver later told ABC News was “very good” Bahasa Indonesian.

  27. Intellectual or not, textbook writer or not, judging by the comments from some of her students, dakinikat would be well advised to spend some time revising her teaching style rather than posting arrant nonsense on a deadender blog:

I also find it hard to take a so-called “intellectual” seriously who is evidently unable to find the caps key on her keyboard. Given that and her terrible writing style, editing her textbook must have been a total joy …

  28. As evidence to back up my comment above – and because I just love flogging a dead horse – even when she does manage to locate her caps key, here’s a quick grab-bag of the oh so well-read dakinikat’s elementary school grammatical bloopers worthy of G.W. Bush that seem calculated to make a copy-editor itchy.

This time, I’d intended to focus purely on verb-noun agreement, which is apparently an alien concept to her (I’d love for someone more versed in economics than I am to really take her arguments apart, but that’s a different level of critique), but a few other problems are also evident:

Two groups that are carefully watched by labor statistics are discouraged workers.

Is there some reasons we’re trying to drive all capital out of this country?

The Financial media and economics blogosphere is full of wonky goodness this week with all kinds of forecasts of the economy.

Recently, a set of anonymous email exchanges were released at Liberal Rapture.

Every one’s house and savings is worth far more less than it needs to be to support any level of spending that occurred over the last decade.

That took all of two minutes to collate.

The ability to write grammatically correct english is not necessarily a proxy for intelligence, but if you fancy yourself as a writer – and she does – and you’re going to get sniffy about other people’s command of language – as she does – then you’d better get the chicken wire erected around your glass house pronto.

  29. Please remove the link that takes you to my real name. You can blather on all you want about anything else. But please remove the link.

  30. Hey dakinikat, guess what?
Conflucens have no moral high ground on economic issues. You(along with many others including several front-pagers)voted for McCain.
His top economic adviser(and likely Treasury Secretary) was Reaganite Phil Gramm. You know, the guy who said we’re only having a “mental recession”?
But you didn’t care about that, you voted for McCain because your candidate didn’t win the nomination. Consequences be damned!
If you’d gotten your wish, one of the architects of Reagan era deregulation would be running the economy now, so you and everyone else in your rotten little cesspool should stick with what your good at. You know, racist attacks on Obama as an “affirmative action candidate”, conspiracy theories involving, Dean,Pelosi, Brazile,Joan Walsh, acorn, etc.

  31. JasonM: I claim no moral highground. I voted McCain as a protest vote. It didn’t make much difference because Louisiana went overwhelmingly for McCain. The protest vote was over the caucus fraud, the railroaded convention, and the rules committee snafu.

We have some one in office as POTUS that admires Reagan so that is a moot argument as far as I’m concerned. The consequences of this POTUS will be just about as bad as the last one because of inexperience, arrogance, and inability.

I honestly think that if you think there is nothing to anything I say or any one else says, then you should ignore it. It makes little sense for you to be so openly engaged in an emotional back and forth with some one you find so trivial and so based in things of which you disapprove. Why don’t you spend some time on someplace like dKos where you can channel more positive energy and messages.

  32. Thanks for that link yetanother – so not only is DakinKat awful at politics, this pumabigot has some pretty awful reviews on ratemyprofessors.com

I am laughing out loud that the great PUMABigot economist is in fact rated as a poor to average professor of economics at The University of New Orleans.

The nicest review of this PUMABigot is this “Pros: fun personality, believes marajuana will stabilize the country, and she knows what she is talking about. CONS: BORING AS H3!!. Powerpoints are loaded with information that she simply reads off of, completely defeating the purpose of going to class. GREAT PERSON-POOR TEACHER”.

I wonder if her students know that this pumabigot posts on a site that is extremely Anti Islam, hard hard right site. Especially those Professors who work with her that happen to be Muslim.

LOL – at least with the easy A grades it is only the PUMA that fails and not the students.

  33. Now, Please remove any links between my blog name and my real name.

  34. As far as I know, and I only post here so I have no strong affinity other than a common cause, the purpose of this site is just to point and laugh at the pure stupidity that is PUMA. Their hordes of five, their 12 strong march at Denver, their pathetic conference and the pure hate that means that they follow every right wing and left wing talking point that simply attacks President Obama.

Of course I have better things to do with my life, however life is not all about the serious. Laughing at PUMA is a minority interest past time largely because PUMA is such an irrelevance. The fact that they are such an irrelevant bunch of bitter bigots bigoting (my phrase), is what makes it fun.

On a serious side, maybe you should find out why your students feel your class is boring and irrelevant instead of shooting the messenger.

  35. What’s the purpose of this site? Fun. It’s fun to call out people who spout insane racist conspiracy theories. And you don’t allow dissent at the effluence, so this site exists to point out how crazy and divorced from reality you are.

As for “why don’t we channel our energy in a more positive way”? First off, look at the confluence. Is that positive? Have we threatened violence against anyone? And most of us were politically active prior to 2008. Our political awakenings didn’t begin and end with a sick, fetishistic attachment to a candidate.

  36. Also Professor Kat, as a Democratic supporter I am very pleased with the way things are going.

  37. Dakinikat– If I had a dollar for every time you PUMAs start on your little ‘I’m a progressive feminist even though I voted for John ‘health of the mother’ McCain’ rants, I’d be as recession-proof as jenny. Les excuses sont fait pour s’en servir…
So you couldn’t bring yourself to vote for Obama, fine, we get it. But what kind of moral objections could you possibly have had about poor Cynthia McKinney? Surely, someone as avidly liberal as yourself found her platform more palatable than that of the GOP?

I’m willing to believe your students though. You’re probably not a republican. However, if you are half as progressive as you claim to be then you are a bitter hag that threw away all her principles and beliefs because of one black guy who made mythical sexist remarks nobody can ever proof. Congratulations.

As to why I come to this site? I like to point and laugh at Internet lunatics, and PUMA is comedy gold, offensive gold, but still.

In short, your ‘movement’ is like a very slow, very painful train wreck, I just can’t look away. Now where’s the popcorn?

    Also : They seyde, the man is wood, my leeve brother;
And every wight gan laughen at this stryf.
Thus swyved was this carpenteris wyf
    For al his kepyng and his jalousye;

This tale is doon, and God save al the rowte!
